A Dangerous Oversight: Why I Started Sweeping Chimneys

Hello! I'm Joe. I'm also a fully registered HETAS installer qualified for chimney sweeping, stove servicing and even installation work. Over the past 7 years I've honed my skills and now decided to start up on my own.
My mission is to make sure chimneys and stoves are kept clean, but more importantly safe for you and your family to use. Being as experienced as I am, should you need anything extra doing such as a new register plate or new rope seal, I'm qualified and able to do it for you too.
I was sweeping a chimney one day, I'd swept the chimney and was emptying above the register plate. It was difficult but I finally got access into the chimney above the metal register plate. On top of the plate there was an unbelievable amount of soot, tonnes of the stuff. There must have been 5 full bags by the end. It could've caught fire at any point during use. Worse than that, the customer was confused and asked "what are you doing?". Their previous chimney sweep had NEVER cleared above the plate after sweeping their chimney.
I explained that as well as sweeping the chimney, the plate needs to be cleared too to keep their stove safe to use. Otherwise, if a spark went up the pipe and fell back down, a chimney fire could still start above the plate. I was shocked that somebody who was meant to help this elderly couple had left their chimney in such a dangerous state.
It took a little longer than expected, but by the end of their service, they had a cleaned, and safe chimney ready to use for another year. From then I realised they and many others had been swindled. Not only had they paid previously for a service that wasn't done properly, it wasn't even left in a safe condition.
